So this is a two step equation 5x8=40.this is for the five hours; we still need to find out what the flat rate is. 115-40=75 the flat rat is $75

Therefore it is a flat rate of $75 and an additional $8/hour so your linear equation would look like

Y=8x+75

Y would be the total and x would be the amount of hours
