Volcanism
Volcanism corresponds to a natural geological phenomenon caused by lava, which is accumulated and is expelled from the Earth's interior towards the surface.
- Such a process develops only because there is an enormous pressure coming from the mantle (one of the Earth's layers)
- Strong enough to cause the rupture of the rock layers of the Earth's crust, triggering volcanism.
The phenomenon in question occurs most often in places where tectonic plates meet. The magmatic material comes to the surface in the form of lava, which covers a large area around it.
In terms of occurrence, there are two types of volcanism: primary and secondary.
- Primary volcanism consists of volcanic activity itself.
- Secondary volcanism refers to associated processes, such as geysers, thermal heating of water, fumaroles, among others.
The time for eruption is quite variable, it will mainly depend on how much magma is below the volcano, as it is the magma that feeds the eruption, and is stored in large underground pockets, where it is not possible to accurately predict the lava production, quantity and the next eruption.
