The sum of two rational numbers is -8 1/4. If one of the numbers is -5 2/3, find the other number.

Respuesta :

Let the other number be x .

[tex] - 5 \frac{2}{3} + x = - 8 \frac{1}{4} [/tex]

[tex] \frac{ - 13}{3} + x = \frac{ - 31}{ \: \: 4} [/tex]

[tex] \frac{ - 31}{ \: \: \: 4} - \frac{ - 13}{3} = x[/tex]

[tex] = \frac{ - 67}{ \: \: \: 6} [/tex]

[tex]∴ \: the \: other \: number \: is \: = \frac{ - 67}{ \: \: 6} [/tex]
