Alfred wegener was a German geophysicist and the father of continental drifting. He was the one that first recognized that the continents have been drifting overtime. Alfred wegener believed the earth was a super continent know as pangea. He believed the continents was once a single super continent and later on drifted to several continents.
He gave evidence of how the drifted continents fit together like a puzzle. He also gave evidence of how similar fossils was found in different continents. He believed their was no better explanation for such similarities in fossils found in different continents than the continents existing as one before. Similar geologic structures cut across various continents was also used as evidence of continental drifting.
Unfortunately, Alfred Wegener couldn't explain the cause or what propagated the movement of these massive continents. His theory received so many negative response from the scientific community because of this.
