I believe it to be repression. The client is subconsciously repressing the event, in other words their amnesia is a coping mechanism. By “not remembering” they are avoiding painful memories of the traumatic event. Very well mind says “repression involves the unwanted impulses or thoughts being unconsciously pushed out of awareness”.
