That's the symbol used for a battery. Actually, it's one cell of a battery, and if there's more than one cell used in the circuit, then the same symbol is repeated in the diagram.
The longer line ... on the left side in this picture ... represents the positive ( + ) side of the cell. The short, fat line on the right is the negative side.
