It is true that when Milton went blind, he worried that he would be unable to use his gift for writing, and he did reflect these fears in one of his most famous sonnets When I consider how my light is spent, more commonly known as On His Blindness. This was an important subject in some of his writing, and eventually it came true - he did become completely blind at some point, which is why other people had to help him with his writing.
