Terry uses 3 cups of pecans to decorate the tops of 12 pecan pies . She put an equal amount of pecans on each pie. How many cups of pecans does she put on each pie.

4 cups because 12 divided by 3 equals 4.
The answer is 1/4 cup on each pie.  you take the total cups of pecans 3 and divide by the number of pies 12

3/12 = .25 cups on each pie.
