Enzymes are highly specific proteins that function best at certain pHs. A change in pH would affect its structure; too high or too low would cause denaturation. When this happens, the enzyme won’t have the correct structure to function as a catalyst. Therefore, reaction rate will slow.

pH is a measure of how acidic and basic are the fluids. The fluids which are lower than the pH level 7 are considered as acidic, and which are higher than pH level 7 are called basic.
pH levels affect rate of enzyme reaction and shape in the cell
- The rate of enzyme reaction is highly affect by the changing in the pH level of its surrounding.
- The shape of enzyme also changes if the pH is not in level in which the enzyme work.
- Changing in the pH changes the amino acid molecules.
- Every enzyme has its specific temperature and pH in which it works properly.
- If there is slightly changes in the pH of the substance, it alters the working of the enzyme.
All enzyme work in its specific pH, if the pH changes the working of an enzyme also changes.
