Woodrow Wilson confidently expected the USA to join the League of Nations. But many Americans hated the idea. Many had been against US involvement in the war, and they certainly did not want the USA to get entangled in European affairs after 1919.

After World War I, the US did not join the League of Nations because it did not receive support from the Senate. For president Woodrow Wilson, the League of Nations offered the best chance of long-term peace and stability in Europe, but his senators did not agree.
