PLZZZ HELPPPP WIL VOTE BRAINLIEST Why does calcite react to hydrochloric acid? And plz dumb it down for me i cant understand the sciency version. Thanks!

Respuesta :

"The carbon dioxide bubbles that you observe are evidence that the reaction is taking place. When that occurs, calcite or another carbonate mineral is present. Many other carbonate minerals react with hydrochloric acid. ... The chemistry of these reactions is similar to the calcite reaction above." (https://geology.com/minerals/acid-test.shtml)

You can look on the website and they can explain it for you, I think. Hope this helps

Calcite will act as the base in this case. HCl, hydrochloric acid, will react with it form CO2 and water, as well as the CaCl salt. It is just an acid base reaction.
