The perimeter of a rectangular yard is 14 ft. The length is 1 foot more than the width. Find the length and the width of the yard.

            14 = 2(x + 1) + 2(x)

            14 = 2x + 2 + 2x

            14 = 4x + 2

            12 = 4x

             3 = x

Answer: width = 3, length = 4
