the -2 on the end refers to the position of the asymptote from where it originally was. so it effectively means two down.
Transitioning from 4^x to 4^(x+1) involves shifting the graph of 4^x 1 unit to the LEFT.  From there, shifting the graph downward 2 units produces the new graph (with one horiz. translation and one vertical translation).
