A local sporting start-up company has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a strong, reliable yet affordable foot ball launching machine. You are currently employed at a manufacture and distribution company that specializes in creating various types of rotating equipment and products. The Operations Manager has assigned you to spearhead a response to the RFP which has the following Design Brief:

The ball launching machine must be capable of launching different sizes and types of balls :
1. Must be able to launch footballs with a maximum speed of 80mph
2. Must be able to fire footballs at different angles to simulate passes and crosses
3. Must be portable
The ball launching machine must be designed in a manner that meets all the statutory requirements for design as well as be profitable in the current market.
Your Engineering Design Specification Report for this design must include the following:
1. Produce a design specification detailing the various stages of the production of the machine from the given design brief scenario – P1.
2. Explain the influence of this stakeholder’s design brief and requirements in preparing your design specification – P2.
3. Develop a Gantt chart and describe the use of this Gantt chart in the preparation of your design specification – P3.
4. Evaluate the planning techniques used to come up with the design specification and present a case for the method chosen – M1.
5. From the stages required for producing your design, determine the critical path. Explain the use of critical path analysis in the preparation of the design process – M2.
6. Compare and contrast the completed design specification against the relevant industry standard specification – D1.
Your Technical Solutions Report must include the following:
7. Using Analytical Tools such as Cause and Effect Diagrams and Pareto Analysis to formulate possible technical solutions in your design process, explore its use specific to this current application.

8. Use appropriate design techniques to produce a possible design solution. Discuss three conceptual designs via sketches and written report and discuss the role of conceptual designs in the design process – P5.
9. Using Auto CAD or any other applicable software develop a prototype of your solution for the design scenario – M3.
10. Evaluate potential technical solutions, presenting a case for the final choice of solution – D2.
Your Technical Design Report shall include the following:
11. Prepare an engineering industry standard technical design report and describe the essential elements that need to be included – P6.
12. Explain the role of design specifications and standards in the technical design report to show assessment of the limitations of your selected design – P7.
13. Assess any compliance, safety, and risk management issues specific to the technical design report – M4.
14. Evaluate the effectiveness of the industry standard engineering technical design report for producing a fully compliant finished product by finding five flaws – D3.
Your Presentation of Technical Design Solution shall include the following: Student will present on designated date and then submit with feedback analysis to satisfy M5 and D4 at a date that is to be determined
15. Present the recommended design solution to the identified audience – P8.
16. Present and explain the possible communication strategies that could be used to inform the stakeholders of the recommended solution – P9.
17. Present your reflection on the effectiveness of the chosen communication strategy in presenting the design solution – M5.
18. Justify potential improvements to the design solution and/or presentation based on reflection and/or feedback from the presentation – D4.
