Imagine you were put into a cage made to seem like your home with nothing to do except stare at the sky. This is what it is like being a wild animal in a cage. Animals being kept in, usually, a small cage can take away from their natural abilities and can put their lives at risk by potentially harming themselves or being in a stressed-out state. Wild Animals should not be kept in captivity because it affects their natural abilities and can put them in danger.
To begin with, Wild Animals should not be kept in captivity as it takes away from their natural abilities, and can put them in danger. As said by A trainer at Sea World, "I think you can put all the money into bigger pools that you want but never recreate the ocean” (Jett). This means that even though aquariums try their best to recreate the ocean by buying bigger pools, decorations, etcetera. They can never re-create their natural homes and what they were born to do. According to, “Beastly Blahs” “In a zoo, however, the Animals do not have to worry about many of these activities. Zookeepers deliver dinner, fill up the water troughs, and make sure the animals have safe, secure enclosures.” (Watson). This is saying that animals do not do their biological activities like hunting for food or looking for water and shelter because it is given to them by their zookeepers. For that reason, Taking animals away from their homes and doing stuff for them that they should be doing by themselves makes them have nothing to do for themselves to enhance their natural abilities.
In addition to animals not having anything natural, Animals kept in captivity can put them in danger. As said in the article, “Beastly blahs” “Boredom is a problem for animals too…Some animals may even hurt themselves by pulling out feathers or chewing their tails” (Watson). The information that has been said means, Boredom in animals can cause them harm and it can put them in danger of other serious injuries. This is why taking animals away from their homes and giving them nothing to do can put their health at risk.
Others believe wild animals should be kept in captivity because it helps the animals not be endangered. It is said that animals being held captive can successfully save species from extinction. Understandably, keeping animals in captivity can save species from extinction because they give them a safe place to stay. But, it can also cause them pain inflicted by themselves out of pure boredom. As said in the article “Zoo Complicated”, “Captive whales often chew on the concrete edges of their pools or the steel bars that separate different areas.” (Hulick). This means that when whales are kept in pools to showcase talent they aren't as happy as they seem, they are often bored and chew on things that can damage their teeth. And so, even though it may save animals from extinction it can cause them pain.
In the end, Wild animals shouldn’t be kept in captivity because it affects their natural abilities and it can put them in danger. By releasing animals to the wild and helping them to get used to the wild, or not capturing them in the first place they will live the normal lives they’re supposed to live and will be way happier.
